The task was to propose a project an observatory for the Aurora Borealis that will help us rediscover our primitive instincts, and to create a bond again with Mother Nature.
Fraction of light in the atmosphere creates the Aurora Borealis. It is this simple yet complex process that acted as the generator for the design. The main axis of the city towards the site acts as a light beam, breaking along its way determining the location of objects within the proposal. The orchestration of the light reaches its climax, when it hits our focal center point: the Monolith. Within this archaic structure stairs and platforms follow the rays of light. The points of fraction extend out from the crystal creating both connections to the spectacle of nature and giving clues to the location of the hotel units. In order to further emphasize the polar lights and evoke a dialogue between the visitor and nature all the facilities are open towards the sky and the surrounding wilderness. |
